The NCNW was Founded by Mary McLeod Bethune in 1935 as an “organization of organizations” to represent national and international concerns of Black women.
The NCNW fought for jobs, the right to vote and anti-lynching legislation. It gave Black women the opportunity to realize their goals for social justice and human rights through united, constructive action “National Council of Negro Women.” Milwaukee Courier Weekly Newspaper, 9 Dec. 2017. PurposeThe purpose of the National Council of Negro Women, is to support the enlightenment of black women internationally and domestically.

We have a powerful potential in our youth, and we must have the courage to change old ideas and practices so that we may direct their power toward good ends.
